Our 4-year Bachelor International Hospitality Management will interest you if you are aiming for senior management positions and an international business career in hospitality.

You will receive your hospitality education through one of the world’s top hospitality schools. We embody the long tradition of excellence that characterizes a Swiss hotel management school.

Concept of the Bachelor hospitality programme

The four-year Bachelor hospitality programme will provide you with the advanced knowledge and competencies you need to be successful in the business world.

Hospitality education at EHL allows you to learn from the inside about the highly complex and specialized world of hospitality. At the same time, you develop the creative, artistic and people skills which are essential for a hospitality career. All academic study is interwoven with industry experience, both in operational jobs on campus and during in-company internships. EHL is a “hospitality university”.

Art and science

The curriculum has been developed according to the unique mixture of art and science which is EHL’s trademark philosophy in the field of hotel education. You will combine business and strategy courses with hospitality training: hands-on practical work, projects and special events designed to develop your creative skills and your ability to innovate. Your hospitality courses build on the professional experience you will gain at school and in your internships.

An integrated approach

Our approach is integrated, taking into account the increasingly interrelated nature of the tasks that make up a hospitality enterprise and the specific challenges of hotel and tourism management. Many courses are grouped into cross-disciplinary modules that allow you to see how all areas in a hospitality enterprise impact on each other. Your final year, in addition to strategic management and advanced hospitality courses, focuses on the complex interplay of knowledge and skills that makes up hospitality administration. Hands-on rojects include event management and consultancy mandates for outside companies.

A competency-based curriculum

The Bachelor hospitality programme conforms to the directives of the Bologna Agreement in providing you with the specific competencies you will need in the work place. These competencies involve not only the specific technical or business knowledge that you learn in each hospitality course, but also the wisdom and judgment that you acquire through your experience in practical situations: being able to weigh options and use your knowledge in the right way at the right time.

Programme overview for the Bachelor hospitality programme

The programme for the Bachelor hospitality management degree is structured so that students move from a solid grounding in hospitality service, through general management courses, to advanced courses in hospitality management strategy and increased opportunities for specialization. In their final year, students bring together and consolidate everything they have learned as part of a major Student Business Project.

Two internships form an integral part of the programme, one in operations and one offering hotel management training.,These internships provide students with the real-life experience which will give them a flying start in the workplace and set the stage for a successful career in hospitality.

  • Preparatory Year: Fundamentals of hospitality and industry internship in hotel operations
  • Year I: Principles of hospitality management
  • Year II: Creating added value / hospitality internship at management level
  • Year III: Developing strategic vision for the hospitality industry

Accreditation for the Bachelor hospitality programme

US accreditation

EHL’s hospitality degree in international hospitality management is a Bachelor of Science degree accredited by the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education (CIHE) of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. This commission accredits universities and high-level professional schools including hospitality universities in the US and abroad. Accreditation guarantees the quality both of the institutes of hotel management themselves and of the specific hospitality degrees they offer.

European accreditation

In Europe, EHL’s Bachelor of Science (BSc.) is a legally protected title which is recognized by the Swiss federal government as an HES-SO degree (University of Applied Sciences). The BSc. is in conformity with Bologna requirements for a 3-year Bachelor degree. As a hospitality degree, it also adds a first, preparatory year of professional experience in conformity with HES-SO regulations.

Recognition for advanced study

The Bachelor of Science degree in International Hospitality Management is market-oriented and develops the knowledge and skills needed for rapid insertion into the working world. At the same time it has the academic recognition which is a prerequisite for access to more advanced study:

  • NEASC accreditation guarantees that the level of the EHL Bachelor hospitality degree is equivalent to Bachelor degrees in the US and internationally;
  • Bologna accreditation ensures acceptance everywhere in Europe;
  • HES-SO recognition permits application to other universities in the Swiss system (Rectors’ Conference Agreement, December 2007), not necessarily in the field of hospitality.

The decision to accept a candidate for advanced study, either for hospitality study or in another field, in Switzerland or abroad, always depends on the specific requirements of the host university. Each institution may ask for additional credits in specific areas and selects candidates according to its own criteria and needs. However, accreditation ensures that a candidate may submit an application for consideration and that the quality of EHL’s hospitality studies is officially recognized.
